Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins

Gregor is a teen living in New York who tumbles into an underground adventure by way of their apartment laundry room. Gregor and his two-year-old sister find themselves caught up in Underland prophesies. Their father’s unexpected disappearance in the Overland may be the key to fulfilling destiny and getting them home.

Suzanne Collins, author of The Hunger Games, spins this thrilling tale of spiders, rats, and flying bats. The lost father and the prophetic quest of this sibling duo reminded me a little of A Wrinkle in Time, but Collins kept us on earth and her heroes were loveable and faithful.

I recommend Gregor the Overlander and the following titles in this series for all middle and high school readers. It’s a fun read and highlights responsibility, loyalty, love, and self-sacrifice.
